Main Idea: In today’s topic, we’re going to be diving into how we can find joy in everything we do. We will look at something so simple that can actually greatly influence not only our day, but our whole identity and fulfillment in our lives.

1 In whom should our identity reside? 2 Corinthians 5:17
Note: Our identity is in Christ. We are who Christ says we are.

2 How do our words affect our emotions? Proverbs 15:23
Note: If we would have joy in all we do, we must learn how to use our words to give us fulfillment in what we put our hand to. Our feelings follow our words. If we speak words of discouragement, or doubt, we will not have joy in what we do.

3 What kind of phrases create sweet and enjoyable emotions in our soul? Proverbs 16:24
Note: When we use these pleasant phrases, it helps to create a motivation for the things we want to do for the Lord. Behavior is what is going to drive you to achieve the results you want. For example, instead of saying, I don’t like talking to people. Say, because Christ likes people, I like people. You adopt the identity of Christ who wants to form Himself in you the hope of glory. Then you begin to realize that the people you meet come in contact with Christ, not you.

4 What stirs up painful, grievous, and upsetting feelings? Proverbs 15:1
Note: On the flip side, if the painful words we speak to others can stir up painful emotions, what about the words we speak to ourselves that are painful and grievous? Depending on how we language the conversation we have with ourselves, largely determines the pain or pleasure we experience. This is why it is important to align our feelings with our faith.

5 What happens when we fight for our limitations? Matthew 9:29
Note: If you fight for your limitations, you get to keep them. If you believe you can, or if you believe you can’t; you’re absolutely right.

6 What happens to the seeds we sow with our words? Galatians 6:7
Note: Whether words of doubt or words of faith, the words we sow in the garden of our minds will directly affect our feelings. Expression of them will deepen the impression.

7 How does the Lord describe those who learn to master their emotions? Proverbs 16:32

8 What does the Lord say about those who don’t have control of their emotions? Proverbs 25:28

9 What is the secret to affirming your identity in Christ and finding joy in all you do? Philippians 4:13

10 What happens to our old identity and the painful phrases after we adopt the identity of Christ into our lives? Romans 8:10
Note: Once we accept Christ’s identity as our own, our old identity is dead. Once you take your painful phrases and leave them at the foot of the cross, you have no business in taking them back.
