Main Idea: Often times we are tempted to give up or have a hard time doing the right thing in some trying situations. But having a driving purpose that presses you to preserve helps you in fulfilling God’s will. Today we will be looking at why having this purpose is important and how to cultivate it.

1 How does the Lord desire us to do anything in harmony with His will? Colossians 3:23   1 Corinthians 10:31

2 Why is it hard for us to do the right thing? Romans 7:18-20 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: As Christians, we often lose sight of our “Why”. The reason why it’s so important to spend a thoughtful hour on the life of Christ is so we don’t lose sight of our “Why”. Why are we working for Christ? Why are we praying? Because we have to?

3 What will make a person rise up again if they fall? Proverbs 24:16
Note: The Just are always ready to get back up because they have a reason to get up. The wicked don’t have a reason, therefore, they fall into mischief. Every human has needs. and those needs can be summarized into 7 basic needs: Certainty, Uncertainty, Growth, Fellowship, Love, Significance, and Imparting. The reason why we do anything is usually always trying to fulfill one of these needs.

4 Why should we be encouraged to persevere and serve the Lord? Galatians 6:9
Note: Your “Why” is why you don’t quit. The 7 basic human needs we looked at, help you find your “Why” for serving the Lord. Reasons Reap Results. When we learn to cultivate our “Why”, and persevere to live within that “Why” in serving the Lord, you will start seeing results not only in your life, but also in the lives of others.

5 What has the Lord given to help us in doing His will? 2 Peter 1:4
Note: The Lord has given us His promises that they may help strengthen our reasons for doing things. In a sense, these promises give our “Why” a strong foundation.

6 For whom should we strive to do the right thing? Galatians 1:10
Note: Doing the right thing so as that men would be pleased with us never brings true joy and fulfillment. Everyone’s expectations are different, but God’s expectations will stand forever and they are written in His word.

7 For what reason should we learn to make our “Why” centered around God? Matthew 6:1
Note: there are only two reasons why we do anything. Either to get or to give. It is the spirit of satan to constantly get, get, get. But the Spirit of God is only to give, give, give. When we adopt this giving mentality, God always returns what we give back to us. See Luke 6:38

8 What was Christ’s “Why”? Hebrews 12:2
Note: That joy was to see souls saved by His humiliation, His agony, and the shedding of His blood. Christ had a strong reason which strengthened Him to preserve not for Himself, but for the whole human race. Strong reasons or having a strong “Why” will carry you even though the hardest or most discouraging situations.

9 What will be the results of knowing your driving purpose? 1 Corinthians 15:58
