Main Idea: We often have this preconceived belief that our emotions or feelings are evil or that they have no place in Christianity. But we are going to see in scripture how these emotions, that God Himself instilled in us, play a part in our Christian life. Today we will be learning how we can align our feelings with our faith.

1 How are emotions included in our spiritual life and are they something we should train? Galatians 5:22-23, Galatians 5:25
Note: Emotions, namely joy, and peace are part of the fruits of the spirit. Therefore our feelings or emotions must align with our faith. If we are to walk in the spirit which includes our emotions, we should learn how to train them and bring them into subjection. We will next be looking at 7 questions to ask to align your feelings with your faith.

2 Are you being buried in the grave or are you being planted in the ground so you can spring forth to new life? Proverbs 18:21

3 Is this happening to you or is this happening for you? Psalms 119:71
Note: A great follow-up question for yourself is, “How is God answering your prayers through this situation?” We are told in Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

4 Is God punishing you or is God answering your prayers? Genesis 50:20

5 Are you losing your [desire] or are you gaining [desire]? Philippians 3:7-8 (opens in new tab due to long verse)

6 Are you failing or are you learning? Proverbs 24:16
Note: There is no such thing as failure, there is only results. You can turn any defeat into victory by turning your losses into lessons. What can you learn from this experience?

7 Although you cannot change your circumstances can you choose your reactions? Deuteronomy 30:19

8 What are you grateful for about this situation? 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Note: In telling us to always give thanks in everything, would God ask you to be thankful for something that you couldn’t be grateful for or that was to cause you harm? (See Jeremiah 29:11)

9 When asking these questions, what should God’s promises in Jeremiah 33:3 and Matthew 7:7 cause us to have?
Note: When asking ourselves these questions to help align our feelings with our faith, we must ask with absolute certainty based on the promises of God. Knowing that there is an answer, and you will find it by God’s grace.

10 What happens when we ask with absolute certainty? Galatians 6:9
Note: When we ask with absolute certainty, we must also realize that if we stick with that trust in God’s word, it will be worth it when we find the answer. Christ said, “According to your faith be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29).
