Main Idea: Many struggle with fastening their new learnings to their mind. But what they don’t know is that there’s a powerful faculty in their mind that makes remembering easy! It helps not only with memory, but aids in making connections in our mind to help us better understand a topic. In today’s study, we will be learning about our sanctified imagination.

1 Does the Lord want us to use our sanctified imagination? 1 Chronicles 29:18
Note: The principle here is that God wants us to use our imagination to keep things in our memory. There is a good use for the imagination. See the context if you’d like to know specifically what was to be kept in their imagination, in that situation.

2 Why is it important to cultivate our sanctified imagination? Proverbs 29:18
Note: Without a vision, or using our imagination, our memory will perish.

3 What did Jesus always use when He taught the people? Matthew 13:34
Note: Why did He do this? In teaching through parables, Jesus was invoking the imagination of the hearers. He reached them through their familiar associations. His lessons are still fastened in the minds of others even to this day. He connected principles of eternity with our everyday life.

4 What does all learning come down to? Hosea 12:10
Note: All learning is making associations. Throughout the Bible, God uses symbols or representations of spiritual things to help us learn and make connections in daily life. They stand out and help the concepts to stick in our minds. When we’re learning something new and we want to understand it quickly, we would do well to associate that new thing with something we already know!

5 How will we see things if we really want to understand them and keep them in our memory? Hebrews 11:27
Note: What allows us to see the invisible? Faith and the imagination. This is how Moses learned to have a close walk with God and was called the friend of God. Those who truly want to know and understand will see through the eye of faith, using their imagination to see the invisible.

6 How can we make it easier to memorize the things we want to learn? 2 Corinthians 4:18
Note: Here’s the ultimate memory TIP: Turn it Into a Picture. Make what you’re trying to memorize extraordinary in your mind.

7 What association does the Lord make with our walk towards heaven? Proverbs 4:18
Note: Can you imagine what that looks like? How does it help you understand the heavenward path?

8 How was Elisha’s servant able to see the army of the Lord? 2 Kings 6:15-17 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: Elisha’s servant wasn’t able to see through the eye of faith. But by the petition of Elisha’s prayer to open his servant’s eye of faith, He was able to see the great host of the Lord ready to protect them.

9 What does the Lord tell those who cannot physically see the spiritual things as Elisha’s servant did? John 20:29
Note: Those who believe in the Lord and the things that He has taught them are not only blessed, but strengthen their faith in Him and their sanctified imagination.

10 Why did the patriarchs and prophets use their sanctified imagination? Hebrews 11:16
Note: The patriarchs of old held on to their faith because they were seeking a better land. All of our learnings should be directed towards the eternal things. Once we begin to learn with this end in mind, our sanctified imagination gets stronger and so does our faith.

In Light of God’s Word…

Is it your desire to cultivate your imagination and turn what you learn into a picture so that you can quickly and effectively fasten new concepts into your memory?

Is it your decision to form the habit of making associations in your mind between things you already know and the new learnings you undertake?
