G.O.D.S. P.L.A.N. For a Financial Transformation

Introduction: God’s plan that we will be seeing is an acronym; and we’re going to be looking at eight steps in this framework from the Bible that God reveals for financial transformation. The story that will be our foundation for today’s study comes from Second Kings, chapter four, and then we’re going to break this down into G O D S P L A N for your financial transformation.

Study Video:

1 What is God’s plan for a financial transformation? 2 Kings 4:1-7 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: In the story of this widow who needed a financial transformation, God reveals the plan we can follow to experience a financial transformation ourselves. Just remember G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N.

2 What’s our first step to experiencing a financial transformation? Matthew 7:7
Note: The very first step of G.O.D.S P.L.A.N. for financial transformation is “G”; you have to go seek a transformation. If we are looking for and desiring a financial transformation, but we do not seek and go search for it, then God has not promised that we will find it. Asking is not enough. We must A.S.K. (Ask, seek, and knock). People tend to get the first part right in asking for a financial transformation, but they don’t go searching for answers. You’re different. You’re here because you’re actually searching for a transformation. The woman in 2 Kings 4 sought a financial transformation. She found the prophet Elisha.

3 How are we able to have a more sure opportunity of success in the actions we take to transform our financial situation? Proverbs 11:14
Note: The “O” in the second step is to obtain and submit to a teacher. In the story, the woman is actually going to the man of God looking for an offering. But the man of God doesn’t give her an offering. The man of God gives her an opportunity, optimism, a business plan. He asks her, “What is in thine house?” He’s teaching her to expect more from herself and to expect more from the situation. He’s preparing her to be able to see solutions to her financial problems. If we’ve purposed in our hearts to financially support ourselves, we’re going to have to obtain and submit to a teacher. When we have a good coach, their advice is going to seem counterintuitive to us. Why? Because whatever we’re believing and doing right now is not working. When we have a coach, they can show us a bigger scope and give us ideas and concepts that we may not have considered without them there to challenge us.

4 What if we don’t see that we have anything of value to offer in the marketplace? 2 Corinthians 8:12
Note: The “D” in GODS PLAN is to Discover Your Treasure. When the prophet Elisha asked the woman what was in her house, she replied “Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.” She didn’t see her treasure. Many of us may not see our treasure right now and have not discovered the treasure that we have. We see value in other people’s house. We see the talents, skills, and abilities that other people have. We easily value other people’s skills and abilities, but when it comes to our own skills, abilities, and gifts, we tend to devalue what we have. We don’t see our treasure or we hide it. You have a gift. You have a talent. As you discover and value them, other people will value them and will gladly be willing to pay you for the service, the gift, the treasure that you have. But you’ve got to discover your treasure and see what God has given you first.

5 How can we achieve exponentially more than we ever thought possible? Genesis 2:18? Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (opens in new tab due to long verse)?
Note: The “S” in G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N. is Select Your Team. TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Anything and everything that we’ve ever accomplished in life that was of value, we have accomplished with that least one or more individuals. We’ll never reach higher in success than our team. Anyone who says they’re a self-made success is lying. If we are willing to make the Lord a part of our team to transform our financial situation, then our team has already won. We just need to be willing to cooperate with Him in His instruction.

6 What do we do to prevent our business from running our lives? 1 Corinthians 14:40
Note: The “P” in GODS PLAN stands for processize your tasks. Turn your tasks into a process. The difference between owning a business and a business-owning you is whether we have the time and freedom to labor in the capacity that God has called us. Processizing your tasks will make that tremendous difference. The widow in 2 Kings 4 was behind closed doors. She had a proprietary process, a unique way of doing something that isn’t really known by everyone else. These processes, or systems, free us up to do more of what God has uniquely called us to do, and they allow us to solve problems at scale. The wealthiest people in the world have systems that allow them to solve problems and add value to the marketplace even while they’re sleeping.

7 What is the essential skill we NEED to develop in order to have a financial transformation? Proverbs 11:26
Note: The next step is “L,” which stands for lovingly sell your treasure. Notice in 2 Kings 4:7, the man of God told her to go sell the oil. He didn’t tell her to give it away for free. The problem when we are struggling financially is that we have limiting beliefs about selling. Know that it is loving to sell your treasure. Selling is not against God. The Bible says of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 that she makes fine linen and sells it. It doesn’t say she gives it away. The virtuous woman is a saleswoman. It’s virtuous to sell. When we discover our treasure, it’s essential to be able to create an offer that someone would be glad to take and support us.

8 What do we do with the money we receive from lovingly selling our treasure? Romans 13:7-8
Note: Now we get into “A” in GODS PLAN, which is to acquit your debt. Now it’s time to pay off our debts. Those who refuse to sell will eventually be unable to pay. And those who are no longer able to pay will eventually struggle and no longer be able to live. If we would sell, we would be able to pay, then we would be able to live. This is God’s divine prescription for poverty.

9 After we’ve become free from debt, what is the final step in G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N. for a financial transformation? 1 Thessalonians 4:11
Note: After we go through the previous steps, it is time to sustain our transformation. The process the man of God gave the woman was to go sell the oil, pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. We see that God has put business in place as a plan for being able to support ourselves and to experience a financial transformation. One of the reasons why we get into financial straits is because we’ve been taught a lie. Most of what we have heard and been taught about money is simply not true. The misinformation we receive about finances leads to financial slavery. When we know the truth about finances, it will help us to be financially free, and we will be free indeed. If we want to be free and experience a financial transformation, then it’s so essential that we follow G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N.

10 What does having our own business allow us to do for God? Romans 12:11
Note: We can use our business as a vehicle to spread the gospel and serve the Lord, bringing heavenly solutions to earthly problems. Business and ministry are one.

The Law of Abundance – God’s Original Design for Wealth and Abundance

Introduction: What is God’s original purpose for wealth and abundance? How could we still be believing the enemy’s first lie spoken in the garden? Is money the ultimate source of wickedness, evil, and selfishness? What effect does wealth have upon the character of it’s possessor? Why do so many evil people seem to be so rich? What did the wealthiest man in Asia do with his financial abundance? Today we will be searching the Law of Abundance through the Scriptures.

Study Video:

1 Where is the first place Gold is mentioned in scripture? Genesis 2:11-12
Note: Gold, a universal symbol of wealth, money, and abundance was pronounced by God to be good. Why is it in every nation, culture, and location throughout the world, that gold is universally recognized as valuable? Why not Copper? Why not iron? Why not lead? Why specifically the element we call gold? Because God said it was good. God’s word placed the value upon gold thousands of years ago and His word has sustained its value ever since. I used to believe money or having a lot of it was inherently evil, selfish, or wicked. Then I believed money was neutral and neither good nor bad but depended upon how one used it. But from Genesis 2:12 I now believe that gold, according to God, is inherently good. The wicked could use money for doing bad, outside of its original design, but gold is still good. This common myth that wealth is wickedness and poverty is piety is not a Bible concept. I like the way my favorite Christian author puts it “The desire to accumulate wealth is an original affection of our nature, implanted there by our heavenly Father for noble ends.” {Counsels on Stewardship pg. 148.4} (See also Genesis 1:28)

2 When in the Bible is the first time gold is mentioned in the hands of the heathen? Genesis 41:42
Note: Gold is mentioned 8 times in the Book of Genesis. When Gold is mentioned in Genesis it’s either 1.) in the hands of God’s people (Genesis 13:2). 2.) It is being handed over to God’s people. (Genesis 41:42) 3.) It is handy to God’s people. Meaning it is convenient or available to God’s people (Genesis 2:11-12) We consider the Book of Genesis significant because God is revealing in all 3 scenarios whose hand He originally designed gold to be in; in the hands of His people.

3 Why has God given the sinner to travail, to gather, and to heap up his treasures on earth? Ecclesiastes 2:26

4 What was the character like of the wealthiest man in all of Asia? Job 1:1-3 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: The scriptures reveal how Job wouldn’t qualify for the food stamps program. Some people wonder, “How much is too much wealth? When you are the richest man in all of Asia surely that is enough right?” Apparently, God didn’t think so because after Job’s faithfulness through adversity the Lord blessed Job from being the wealthiest man in the east to having twice as much wealth as he had in the beginning. (See Job 42:12) You may be wondering “Wow, what did Job do with all that wealth?” How about we just ask him? Job says “I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.” Job 29:16. He was what I’d call a “millionaire missionary” because he used his wealth as a talent to serve God and his fellow man. Contrary to popular belief, many wealthy men, like Job, are not greedy, selfish, and take advantage of the poor so they could get rich. But instead are kind, generous, and use their wealth to take care of the needs of others. (See Philippians 2:4-5) Generosity to God and man starts when we have little. (Luke 16:10)

5 What is the real reason for why the unjust are increasing their wealth? Proverbs 28:8
Note: The wicked unknowingly are gathering their wealth so they can hand it over to the righteous who will use it to help others. The enemy wants God’s obedient to believe in order to be successful, they must sacrifice principles of truth and integrity. By believing this lie, the faithful will want nothing to do with this powerful tool for good. But the truth couldn’t be farther from the truth. (See Proverbs 14:34). The reason God allows people who are willing to compromise to temporarily gain wealth through unjust & dishonest ways is so they can hand it over to “him that will pity the poor” like Job (See Job 29:16). Temporal and spiritual prosperity are made conditional upon obedience to the laws of God. (See Job 36:11) Real lasting and enjoyable success is promised only to the obedient. (See Joshua 1:8)

6 Where did the first temptation to focus on lack, scarcity, or poverty come from? Genesis 2:16-17
Note: God said, of “every” tree you may “freely” eat. Are “every” and “freely” both abundance words? Yes. God planted man to live in an environment of abundance. Imagine this. Eve is surrounded by an abundance of good trees, abundance of good gold, abundance of good fruit, and she can freely eat of all of it. But there was ONE tree. Now, is one a scarcity word? Yes. There’s only one tree in the center of the garden of abundance that she cannot eat or she’ll die. Imagine there is abundance all around but in the center there is scarcity. The devil had to trick Eve into completely ignoring all her abundance by focusing on her lack. She had to blindly walk past all her abundance in order to get to her scarcity. The first temptation of Satan was, and still continues to be, the temptation to focus on Lack, Scarcity, and Poverty. In how many areas of your life have you allowed the enemy to shift your focus to scarcity? What will you do today so that you can overcome this ‘Poverty Mindset’?

7 What vehicle has God given His children so they may have lack of nothing? 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
Note: Business is God’s divine vehicle for making sure His children would “have lack of nothing”. One of the reasons why many believers are struggling financially to pay their bills is because they have not followed the Biblical mandate to own their own business. God wants to bless His children with wealth. (See Deuteronomy 8:18) But if we don’t have a business and we are asking for God’s blessing, we literally have nothing for God to financially bless us with. Therefore He must give your blessing to the heathen who owns a business and is employing you. We see when Jacob had a job working for Laban, despite Laban’s deceptive and cheating methods, the Lord blessed Laban’s business because Jacob was in it. (See Genesis 30:27-30 – opens in new tab due to long verse) But as soon as Jacob starts his side business (see Genesis 30:35-36 – opens in new tab due to long verse) now God has something of Jacob’s which He is finally able to bless with great wealth and abundance. (see Genesis 30:43) Likewise, as long as Joseph had no business as a slave, his blessing had to be given to Potiphar’s house instead (see Genesis 39:1-5 – opens in new tab due to long verse), then the prison Joseph worked for (Genesis 39:21-23 – opens in new tab due to long verse), eventually Pharaoh and his entire kingdom became the wealthiest nation on earth because he employed Joseph to look after his kingdom (see Gen 41:37-41 – opens in new tab due to long verse). As Prime Ministers, both Joseph and Daniel “did the king’s business” (Daniel 8:27) instead of owning a business of their own. As long as God’s people are working for heathen businesses, God will continue to transfer the blessing of wealth originally designed for His children to their employer. (See Proverbs 11:26)

8 For who is the wealth of the world being stored up for? Proverbs 13:22
Note: Again and again, all throughout scripture we see God’s original plan for wealth and abundance was for His people. (See Genesis 13:2) The only reason why God allows unbelievers to possess money is to hand it over to His people. (See Exodus 3:21-22 – opens in new tab due to long verse) If something is true in scripture, it will not just be found in one isolated and singular place. (see Isaiah 28:13) If it is truth, it will be found all throughout the word of truth. (John 17:17) The wicked possessing money for the purpose of handing it over to God’s children is a theme throughout all of scripture from Genesis to Revelation. (Job 27:13, Job 27:16-17) This is part of The Law of Abundance. (See John 10:10)

9 What is the key to unlocking the abundance the Lord desires to give us? Matthew 6:33
Note: When we decide to seek God’s kingdom and follow the laws He has put in place for every area of our lives, we will begin to see Him work with us in producing abundance and fulfilling all our needs and the needs of others through us.

10 When we follow these divine laws and principles, and receive abundance from the Lord, will we ever have to depend on the world? Deuteronomy 28:12-13 (opens in new tab due to long verse)

In Light of God’s Word…

Is it your desire to obtain the abundance that God desires to give you when you choose to live within the laws and principles in regard to the financial area of your life?

Is it your decision to use the abundance you have right now and use it to help build up the kingdom of God?

How Violating these Principles on Selling is Costing You Your Freedom

Introduction: In our previous lesson, we learned about the divine laws that, if kept, produce abundance; or if broken, would create poverty as a rule. In today’s training, we’re going to be diving into God’s word and we’re going to be understanding what the biblical laws regarding selling are. Not being aware of what these laws are, can dramatically affect the freedom that we have, or the bondage and the limitations of our life.

Study Video:

1 If God has given you something that could bless others, what does He want you to do with it? Proverbs 11:26
Note: The Bible says if we have something that could bless others we have a moral obligation to sell it to as many people as we possibly can. The Law of Investment is a divine law that says all blessings come at some cost to the receiver.

2 What is your #1 greatest asset you can invest in? Proverbs 3:13-17 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: I would submit to you that your number one greatest asset that you can invest in is your mind. It is investing in wisdom and the word. We see in Daniel one, in the story of the three Hebrews, they were skillful in all wisdom, wisdom includes skills. So the thing to invest in, especially early on in your journey in your life, is to invest invaluable skills. The poor, love to sell their time, so they can get money, whereas the wise are building an asset, an income-producing asset. They’re building systems that will be able to generate income for them, even while they’re not actively trading their time for money. They are investing in skills, experiences, in environments, and in projects, that the process of building will develop skills that will be able to pay them a return on investment for eternity.

3 How does investing in our greatest asset help us live out the instruction given in Philippians 2:4-5?
Note: Your thoughts and your feelings combined, which make up the moral character is the greatest asset you have to invest in. And while we are investing in our mind, through gospel entrepreneurship, we learn to become servants looking unto the things of others. Bringing heavenly solutions to earthly problems. Investing in your mind and having the mind of Christ is the one thing that you have throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. Your mind is the greatest asset you have in life, in business, in your family, and in your finances. Here we’re looking at the law of faith. The law of faith is a law of selling. The law of faith shows that your bank account is a direct reflection of the beliefs you have about money & the beliefs you have about selling. The Law of Faith also states you will never earn more than whatever you think is a lot of money. And so if you think that selling is something you do to someone, you’re not going to want to do it. But I would submit to you selling is something you do for someone.

4 According to the Law of Order, what is God’s method for you to get what you want in life? 2 Kings 4:7
Note: Does the woman in this verse want to pay off her debts? Does she want to financially transform her situation so she could put her family on a secure basis? Yes. In order to do this, there is an order that the man of God lays out. We’re looking at the law of order as it relates to selling & as it relates to your financial freedom to live the lifestyle of evangelism. By violating God’s financial law of order it will lead to financial bondage which holds you back from fulfilling your calling, and the resources to equip you to serve as the capacity that God has called you to. What was this process to help the woman? 1. Sell the oil, 2. pay the debt, and 3. live. We’re looking at the law of order. Now, did God say go give away all your treasure? No, he said, Go sell it. What if God is showing you that by starting a business and creating something of value to other people, and being able to sell to them, you will be able to buy the things that you desire to buy? This is the biblical law of order as it relates to selling.

5 What is God’s plan for creating true wealth in your life? Matthew 25:27
Note: What is God desirous for us to do with His entrusted talent of money? Exchange it for profit. “Put God’s money to the exchangers.” How do we do this? By being a missionary to the marketplace and exchanging. In this verse, we find the Law of Exchange. Did you know that exchanging is actually a divine law of selling? Did you know The law of Exchange is a law of creating wealth that God has intertwined all throughout the scriptures? What is this parable in Matthew 25 talking about? The 10 talents God gives to every man (Matthew 25:15). God has given you talents and He does not want you to just give away your talents for free. I believe that God has given you talents so that you can financially support yourself in Christ’s service. You can’t name a single business, a single job, a single occupation, or any product that does not involve your using your talent in exchange for money. Your talent is what God has given to you to financially support yourself in service to God and man.

6 How does the Lord regard the man who is faithful with the talent of money and leaves an inheritance for his children? Proverbs 13:22
Note: If I want to be a good man, the Bible says that I should leave an inheritance for my children and my grandchildren. When I say wealth, I mean True Wealth such as having a wealth of relationships, wealth of knowledge, wealth of skills, wealth of experiences, wealth of health, etc. If you want the True Wealth that God speaks of then we need to learn how to be faithful stewards with the talents the Lord has given us and put it to the exchangers. This is how we create true wealth.

7 What is the Biblical secret to having an abundance of buyers lining up to pay you for your T.A.L.E.N.T.? Proverbs 11:24-25
Note: If you’re getting started in business, you might be wondering who would buy this? How would I find the people who would be interested in what I have to offer? Here we see this verse revealing to us the law of imparting. Here Solomon is teaching a principle of wealth and abundance and increase That if you’re not paying attention, you might miss. He’s showing you what creates poverty as a rule; cause and effect. There are warnings against poverty and one of those warnings of poverty is that there is that which holdeth more than is meets, but it tended to poverty. It’s withholding, being unwilling to impart of our wealth; the finances of what we have. And the contrast is, there is that scattereth and yet increases. So by actually buying, giving willing to impart of your finances, you are able to increase. That might seem counterintuitive, but the law of imparting states Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. The secret to having an abundance of buyers who are lining up ready to pay you for your talents is to become a buyer. You do not attract who you want; you attract who you are. If you want to have the buyers who are excited and love paying you for what you have to provide, become someone who genuinely loves to pay others for the service and value that they provide to you.

8 Is the concept of selling something we should be wary of doing? Proverbs 31:18
Note: The whole idea that by selling we are doing something to someone is a satanic view. This is a limiting belief that is violating the law of exchange. In a free will market, when people have the freedom to choose what they’re exchanging, they are saying that what you have is more valuable than what they have. And by exchanging, each person has more than before. By making the mistake of thinking selling is something you’re doing to someone, it costs you your freedom. Do you realize that the very act of creating wealth is philanthropic of its nature? Philanthropy is doing good. It’s supporting, it’s helping others; it’s serving people. It’s like a ministry. In order for you to create wealth, you have to find buyers who you are creating value for. In order to create wealth, you have to have a team; and in order to pay for that team, you are selling and creating jobs. You’re financially supporting heads of families, and helping them support their families.

9 Is the kingdom of Heaven involved in the divine order of selling? Matthew 13:45
Note: What is a merchantman? He’s a salesman. And “he’s seeking goodly pearls. Who when he found one pearl of great price,” what did he do? “He went and sold all that he had and bought it.” So the Biblical secret to getting what you want, according to Scripture, is to sell what you have, then buy what you want. Multiple times in the book of Matthew, Jesus says, The kingdom of heaven is like a business. Jesus often in His parables, uses business as a symbol and a representation to illustrate to us spiritual, eternal, and heavenly principles. Selling is a good idea because selling is a God idea. It is actually violating the biblical law of order for us only to be buying. What happens if you’re buying and you don’t sell? How are you going to be able to continue to buy if you are not selling? It’s going to be harder for you to pay your bills, take care of your family and travel and go where God wants you to be. It’s going to be harder to buy that property & that home where you believe God is calling you to live. It’s going to be harder to pay your expenses to support your message. If you have a message to give to the world, then it takes money to get that message out to the world. It’s not against God’s will to sell.

In Light of God’s Word…

Is it your desire to move forward in leaving your old limiting beliefs about selling and to adopt these new liberating truths found in God’s word?

Is it your decision to live in accordance with these biblical laws given by God to help you be all you were made to be for the Lord?

10 Biblical Laws Poor People Ignorantly Violate Keeping Them in Poverty

Introduction: As the title implies, could it be that many people in poverty are bound to their poverty by ignorantly violating laws that God Himself put in place? What are these laws and how do we follow them? In today’s Bible study for evangelistic entrepreneurs or those who want to be entrepreneurs and are evangelistic minded, we will be studying these financial laws in the scriptures because God has counsel regarding all areas of our life including our finances.

Study Video:

1 What is the law that governs the results of our financial state? Proverbs 26:2
Note:
As the curse causeless shall not come, the cash causeless shall not come. The Bible confirms the universal law of cause and effect. It’s fixed and governed by laws of sowing and reaping. Galatians 6:7 says “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Every word is a seed, every deed is a seed, and every dollar is a seed. This law reveals to us that there is a reason for every actionable result whether consciously aware of it or not. Results are sure to follow.

2 What has God given to make His children Financially Free? John 8:32
Note:
The Law of True Wealth states that True Wealth includes not only finances but abundance in every area of our lives and is created by following the principles of truth found in God’s word. Many times we feel we are broke because we don’t have money. But in reality, we don’t have money because we are broke. What I mean by that is, it’s a broken philosophy, a broken mindset, broken ideas, and beliefs that creates poverty in any area of our life. When I say poverty I’m talking about real poverty; not just financially, but we could be socially or nutritionally bankrupt; we can have poverty in our relationships, with our families, and our loved ones; poverty in our spiritual life. This is all scarcity or lack and it’s the opposite of what Jesus promised us (See John 10:10). This abundance is true wealth and it’s not just financial wealth. It’s included but it’s in every area of our life. This is the abundant life that God is seeking to give us. Wealth is not limited to finances and is dependent upon the truth.

3 How do our beliefs determine certain outcomes in our life? Matthew 9:29
Note: What we have in life is a direct result of the beliefs that we hold about that subject. Your bank account is a direct reflection of the beliefs that you hold about finances. If I believe poverty is piety and wealth is wickedness and that it’s evil to have wealth, do you think that I’m going to want to be wealthy or want to have wealth? No. That belief is leading to poverty scarcity and lack in our lives. You will never earn more than whatever you think is a lot of money. This is the law of faith. The beliefs that we hold, we pick them up in childhood. we might hear things from our parents that are repeated that are not really founded upon scriptures. We read in Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Again it comes down to true wealth. What we need to realize here though is that when referring to wealth or abundance it refers to true wealth in every area of our life. Finances are simply a symbol.

4 Are riches and wealth a problem from Satan or a gift from our loving Creator? Ecclesiastes 5:19
Note:
The Bible does not condemn the rich man because he is rich; it does not declare the acquisition of wealth to be a sin, nor does it say that money is the root of all evil. On the contrary, the Scriptures state that it is God who gives the power to get wealth. [See Deuteronomy 8:18] And this ability is a precious talent if consecrated to God and employed to advance His cause.

5 How are our characters affected when we are entrusted with more abundance? Luke 16:10
Note
: According to this verse, is it true that you need to be careful having money because having more money will change you or that having more is going to corrupt you? False. How you are right now with your money and with the things that God gave you is exactly how you’re going to be when He blesses you with more. Money of itself does not change you; it just magnifies who you are. So many people are afraid that wealth is going to change them. The poor think “when I get rich, then I will give, then I will manage”. But God is saying if you are faithful in the little, even if it is one dollar you will be faithful in much.

6 What is an important belief we must have in order to have success in any line of business? Luke 19:13
Note: Multiplied finances and business success is the result of recognizing God’s ownership. When we disconnect the gift from the Gift Giver then we start to lose our gifts. I’ll always remain poor if I have a limiting belief about wealth being a gift from God. When I recognize God is the source of lasting wealth it begins the possibilities of financial blessings. Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines “Occupy” as: “To use; To follow business;” etc. Jesus tells us to pursue in business until He comes. This is a law of stewardship. Recognizing that everything we own belongs to God and we are held at the utmost accountability and expectation to increase and improve upon what God has entrusted to us. Just because we are living in perilous times doesn’t mean we’re not supposed to persevere or pursue business. It doesn’t mean to stay idle.

7 The Law of Expression – How can we audibly influence what we have or don’t have? Mark 11:23
Note: The money that you have is a result of what you say. If you say you can, or you say you can’t, you are absolutely right. Our words can keep us poor. Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” What words do we use to describe money? Are we uncomfortable with the word rich? If we use phrases like filthy rich, they cause us to be poor because we shine a bad light upon wealth. Our expression should be in harmony with the truth and the financial laws God has given.

8 Why is there often failure when trying to build up abundance with what we have? Matthew 13:12
Note: In anything that we do or wish to achieve there must be an act or effort and exercise on our part. This is a law that the Lord put in place. We don’t have to make this effort on our own though. God has provided in His word the means for mental and spiritual development. The law of Use states if you don’t use it you lose it. God gives opportunities; success depends upon the use made of them.

9 How do outside associations influence the abundance or scarcity that we have? Proverbs 13:20
Note: Relationships are more valuable than money. You are an average of the top 5 voices you hear the most. If 9 of your closest friends are broke, you’ll be the 10th. This is the law of association.

10 How do we obtain an abundance of our desired results? 2 Corinthians 9:6
Note: Here we see The Law of Investing. It is a divine law that blessings come at some cost to the receiver. If we decide to make little to no investment of our own part towards the results we want to see, we will not get very far. Is setting aside time, money, or learning the necessary skills for your business an expense or an investment? Learn to see these seeming sacrifices as investments, whether it be an investment in your health, time, new learnings or means.

Family Business is a Good Idea Because Family Business is a God Idea

Introduction: How often do we hear that a factor of why we have a breaking society today is because families are not rightly employing their children in useful labor that in turn creates a close-knit unit? It turns out, not very often. But in the beginning, God had a plan that was practiced by Adam and Eve, and by the children of Israel that could keep these families in a perfect order with heaven and spread God’s messages to the masses. Today we are going to be looking throughout scripture to see the examples we have of a family business and what God’s original plan was for His children in being able to to express themselves in this world as well as to carry on the mission of Christ and His kingdom for eternity.

Study Video:

1 When God created mankind, where did He place them? Genesis 2:8, Genesis 2:15
Note: To the dwellers in Eden was committed the care of the garden, “to dress it and to keep it.” Their business was not wearisome, but pleasant and invigorating. God appointed labor as a blessing to man, to occupy his mind, to strengthen his body, and to develop his faculties. In mental and physical activity Adam found one of the highest pleasures of his holy existence. And when, as a result of his disobedience, he was driven from his beautiful home, and forced to struggle with a stubborn soil to gain his daily bread, that very labor, although widely different from his pleasant occupation in the garden, was a safeguard against temptation and a source of happiness. Those who regard business as a curse, attended though it be with weariness and pain, are cherishing an error. In the first commandment of God to man, we see God’s original plan for mankind. Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion…” The word fruitful means to be productive, to create, to be a producer. God is teaching us a principle to be not just consumers of businesses but to be producers in life and the marketplace.

2 When God’s children start family businesses who are they engaged in business with? Luke 2:49
Note:
Every business God’s children create is a family business with our Heavenly Father. The reason why Jesus often referred to the kingdom of God as being like a business continually throughout the gospels is because the kingdom of God is a family business. Mat 13:45-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” What is a merchantman? A salesman. Jesus is representing Himself and God’s kingdom as a salesman who owns a business. Jesus often uses examples of family businesses to describe the acceptance of the gospel. In Revelation 3:18 we see Jesus again represented as the heavenly salesman saying “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich…” As Evangelistic Entrepreneurs, we, like Christ, bring heavenly solutions to earthly problems.

3 What benefit do children receive when they are trained up in a family business? Proverbs 22:6
Note: The Hebrews had been instructed of God, by His servant Moses, to train up their children to industrious habits. Those people were therefore led to look upon idleness as a great sin, and their children were all required to learn some trade [which was often their family business] by which, if necessary, they could gain a livelihood. Those who neglected to do this were regarded as departing from the instruction of the Lord. Work was considered elevating in its nature, and the children were taught to combine religion and business. (See Romans 12:11) In the time of Christ, the Jews, though wealthy, still followed their ancient practice. (See Acts 18:3) Having a family business helps to employ children and keep them from being idle. In many homes without a family business the following command is sadly disregarded, “this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10. The sin of Sodom was “pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness” (Ezekiel 16:49) Imagine how many children now rebellious would be productive, helpful, and diligent soldiers of Christ today if they were given meaningful labor in their family businesses. I believe the proper training of our children includes involving them in a family business.

4 Was it uncommon for families to own businesses in the New Testament? Matthew 4:19-21 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note:
How many children today grow up without their father’s influence active in their lives? How many youth may have had a father who was physically present but mentally absent? Or financially providing but his job forced him to work at a great distance from the home? Having a family business allows for children to be trained alongside their fathers and mothers. Family business provides for not just quality time but a quantity of quality time with your children or future children. It was thus that Jesus, our Example, was raised in the carpenter shop while working along side Joseph in the family business. (Matthew 13:55, Mark 6:3) It was common in Jesus’ day for children to be working in the family business by age 5 years old and up.

5 Why would God still create the Earth and mankind after knowing all the difficulty, trouble, and heartache that would happen? Genesis 1:1
Note:
One of the main reasons why God still created the heavens and the earth, is because He is a creator and likewise creative. That means it is His nature to create. God created everything as an expression of His creativity. Likewise, God created us in His image (see Genesis 1:26). Which means He created you to create things. And the things He designed you to create are to be an expression of your creativity. God put a different aspect or facet of His creativity inside all of us. Then as we build businesses, we are expressing that creativity that God put inside of us. Business is our God-given vehicle for creation. Having a family business is God’s way for families to create as a family. Business is creating value for someone other than ourselves, and letting those other people pay us for the value we’ve created. Business is a good idea because business is a God idea.

6 What two types of people have the longest war in history been waged between? Isaiah 14:12-14 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note:
There is a great war taking place between two types of people: makers and takers. Ultimately God is the ultimate maker and Satan is the ultimate taker. This war is between God and Satan. God created everything, including Satan. Satan wanted to take God’s glory. Satan wanted to take over God’s throne in heaven and was thrown down to earth. (see Revelation 12:7-9 – opens in new tab due to long verse) Then he wanted to take over the garden of Eden. He wanted to take over the earth that God had delegated to man the authority over. Satan is the ultimate taker and God is the Ultimate Maker. The more like God we are, the more we will be a maker. The more like Satan we are, the more we will be a taker. Having a family business allows us to make value and make solutions that will enhance other people’s lives. There will always be two types of people on earth. Those who are looking for opportunities to make for others and those who are looking for ways to take from others. Makers ask the question “How can I make and out give more than anyone else expects?” While takers ask the question, “How can I take the most while giving the least possible?”

7 What does God command us to do with our time? Ephesians 5:15-17
Note:
The word redeem means to buy back or to buy up. It also means to rescue from loss and to improve opportunity of. The Scripture tells us to buy back our time, rescue our time from loss and improve the opportunity of our time. Your time is infinitely more valuable than your money. We can’t buy back our time, rescue it from loss and improve our opportunities while we have a job. In fact, having a job is the exact opposite of buying back our time. You’re actually selling your time not buying it back. You’re actually giving your time to someone else who owns a business to use so it’s no longer yours. You’re doing the exact opposite of redeeming your time. The Scripture tells us to buy back our time, rescue from loss, improve opportunity, because the days are evil. That word evil doesn’t mean evil, like the devil is evil. It means evil, like difficult in nature. The Scripture is telling us to buy back our time, rescue it from loss, and improve our opportunity, because life is hard. What does God mean life is hard? He means people that you love are going to get sick. If you don’t have a business, you’re not going to be able to go visit them. Why? “I don’t have enough time, I don’t have enough money.” It means people who you love might be in trouble who live a long way from you. It means people that you love are going to need help, and you won’t be able to help them because you don’t have anything to help them with.

8 Why is the desire to only make enough money to provide for myself and my family among the most selfish desires that we could have? Philippians 2:4-5
Note: The whole idea of “I don’t really even want to have abundance. I just want to make enough to be comfortable.” is one of the most selfish ideas and selfish concepts that any person could believe. Because the mind of Christ is not “looking after His own things” but “after the things of others”. If we had the mind of Christ we would be saying, “I don’t want to just make enough for me to be comfortable. Through my family business, I want to make enough to help provide for the employment and support of other people and families to become comfortable.”

9 Why is God so concerned with His children having a family business? Leviticus 25:23
Note:
When God brought the children of Israel into the promised land, the thing He gave to all of them, is a plot of land. Why? It was the economic infrastructure of the world that was based on agriculture back then. When He gave them the land, He was literally giving them a family business on which to raise crops or to raise cattle. If you don’t have a family business, and you’re asking for God to bless you, you’re asking Him to bless something that doesn’t exist. When a father died, he would leave his land to his children (Proverbs 13:22). Like the command in Leviticus 25:23 “The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine…” God’s saying, I’m going to bless you with this family business so you’ll be able to bless your children with it. But I’m not giving it to you to sell. Because ultimately, your business is my business. “The land is mine” forever. The land is associated with the business back in the agricultural age.

10 What will happen to God’s blessings if His children don’t own a business but choose to rather work for the world? Genesis 39:5
Note:
Remember when Joseph was in Potiphar’s house? Potiphar’s house was blessed because Joseph was in it (Genesis 39:2-5 – opens in new tab due to long verse). Joseph didn’t have his own house or family business for God to bless. So God blessed Potiphar’s business because Joseph was working in it. (Genesis 39:11) When Joseph was in the prison, the prison was blessed because of Joseph (Genesis 39:22-23 – opens in new tab due to long verse). Joseph was the Prime Minister of Egypt. Egypt was blessed because of Joseph (Genesis 41:39-43 – opens in new tab due to long verse). Likewise, if you don’t have a business, then God can bless the person’s business, who you work for and He can to give your blessing to them. God blesses His own creativity, and God blesses His own people, because people are made in His own image. (Genesis 1:28) God even blesses people who are not His people. Matthew 5:45 says, God “maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” God even blesses people who are not His people, simply because they are made in His image. Even though they don’t obey Him, consciously or willfully. Everybody who follows God’s laws, even those who think they’re fighting against Him, receives a blessing in proportion to their obedience to His laws. By having a family business whether you’re professing to be God’s child or not, you are literally allowing yourself to have something that God now can bless on your behalf. Jacob’s blessing also was transferred to Laban’s business because Jacob didn’t have his own business. Genesis 30:27-30 – opens in new tab due to long verse. It wasn’t until immediately after Jacob started His own family business (Genesis 30:30) with his sons (Genesis 30:35-36 – opens in new tab due to long verse) that Jacob now had something God could and did start blessing exceedingly (Genesis 30:43).

Gospel Entrepreneurship From Genesis To Revelation

Introduction: Have you ever considered pursuing your own business as a Christian? Some may believe that Christianity and business do not mix, but what if the Bible actually joins these two together from Genesis to Revelation? What if, business is a provision from God, a vehicle, to help you spread the gospel to the masses and glorify your maker? If you have ever asked these questions or wondered if a Christian should have anything to do with business, then this Bible reading is for you. Throughout Genesis to Revelation, we will be seeing the true principles of Gospel Entrepreneurship.

Study Video:

1 What is a talent, instilled in us by God, that we can cultivate and use to show brotherly love to our neighbors? Romans 12:10-11
Note: Business is not only actually loving our brothers and our neighbors as ourselves, but business is also serving the Lord. All business is solving a problem. every product, every ministry, every organization that exists is formed for a purpose of solving a problem. Today we will be seeing this throughout scripture.

2 What was man’s first calling, given to him by God, when he was created? Genesis 2:5, Genesis 2:8, Genesis 2:15
Note: God gave Adam a family business; and that business was to be the school of the human race. It was a home-based business, which was their home in the garden of Eden and that was to be the instruction of the youth. That was God’s original design for man. It was to give him business, occupation, etc. that he can be an owner of and that he can be able to serve others. Business is solving a problem. What problem did they have? They needed to eat. The garden provided a solution to their need.

3 How was Abraham able to spread the Gospel? Genesis 12:7-8 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: Abraham spread the gospel through the memorials that he established. They were to be a representation of the sanctuary service worship. Not only was he ministering to his own household of over 1,000 people, but Abraham’s influence extended beyond his own household. “Wherever he pitched his tent, he set up beside it the altar for sacrifice and worship. When the tent was removed, the altar remained; and many a roving Canaanite, whose knowledge of God had been gained from the life of Abraham His servant, tarried at that altar to offer sacrifice to Jehovah.”

4 When was the first time jobs were introduced? Genesis 9:25-27
Note: In those times, the servants were those who would dress the vineyards, etc. They were hirelings, or under-shepherds who took care of the sheep. The servants were the employees of these businesses.

5 Who in scripture is one of the best examples of Gospel entrepreneurship? Proverbs 31:16, Proverbs 31:18, Proverbs 31:24
Note: The Virtuous woman in proverbs 31 is an entrepreneur and business owner. She has a strong belief in the things she is selling. She has products to offer of monetary value, Invests in the resources she needs, and is not afraid of selling.

6 In what line of work was Daniel in, and how did he use it to point to, and glorify God? Daniel 2:47-48 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: Daniel was a statesman in the kingdoms of Babylon and Medo-Persia. Although he was the prime minister of the greatest of earthly kingdoms, he also was a prophet of God. A counselor of kings. Through this position, he was even a converter of Kings as he received light of heavenly inspiration. In all his business transactions, he was without fault. “He was an example of what every businessman may become when his heart is converted and consecrated, and when his motives are right in the sight of God.”

7 What was the business that Christ took up here on earth? Luke 2:49, Luke 19:10
Note: Christ was in the Business of saving souls, and He was not slothful in that business. By being fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, He achieved results that we also can obtain if we too remain faithful in this business.

8 What is a command the Lord gives us that can be fulfilled in business? Philippians 2:4

9 Has the practice of gospel entrepreneurship been done even after Bible times? Revelation 12:13-14 (opens in new tab due to long verse)
Note: Here we see the scriptures talking about the 1260 prophecy. But what’s interesting is that God’s church that went into the wilderness, sometimes went into the towns and villages to spread the gospel by having their own business and trade since they were heavily persecuted for directly spreading the truth. “They carried silks, jewelry, and other articles, at that time not easily purchasable save at distant marts; and they were welcomed as merchants where they would have been spurned as missionaries.”

10 What promise do we find in 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 if we determine to be diligent in business?
Note: We have a biblical mandate from Genesis to Revelation to be business owners. Business is not the opposite of Christianity but a part of it. Business is a good idea because business is a God idea. It was God’s original plan for man, to put him into a garden, to own their own business, and to provide for their family. It is God’s plan that by owning your own business you have the ability to create abundance. Lack is a limitation but God’s plan is that you can own a business like all the other children of Israel who had abundance, and create abundance for your life, for your family so that you can have a wall to guide and protect. This is not separated from God’s provision, but a part of God’s provision

In Light of God’s Word…

Is it your desire to follow God’s original plan to be gospel entrepreneurs and join His family business in saving souls for His kingdom?
